I recently started watching the TedTalk LifeHack series and although this series contains different episodes there was one which resonated with me greatly. The talk made me feel powerful, inspired and positive about being confident within myself.
In this TED Talk social psychologist and Harvard Professor Amy Cuddy discusses, how our nonverbal language can influence how we are perceived by others and how we perceive ourselves. She says from body posture to digital emoticons, nonverbals are important to acknowledge because they influence our judgements. With her ‘Power Posing’ stances Cuddy demonstrates how 2 minutes a day in the Wonder Woman pose can change who you are. How you are perceived and how you perform in situations. 2 minutes in a power pose changes the testosterone and cortisol (stress hormone) levels in our brain. This influences our feelings about ourselves. 2 minutes will help you configure your brain to face a difficult or stressful situation with more confidence, assertiveness and optimism.
I’m so grateful I stumbled across this TedTalk. I have watched it more than five times already. For a while I have been working to practise gratitude and mindfulness and trying to see the best in every situation. Our day-to-day lives can be quite unpredictable. Despite the outside environment, being able to perform small actions that will have a meaningful effect on our minds and body is an amazing idea and I welcome it!
