Book Review: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) By Mindy Kaling

Lately I’ve been on a book reading scavenge. I’ve just finished an English degree I don’t want to read intense classics or stories with dense plots. Heck I don’t even want to write for a while because I feel like I just need to step back and live to be able to write again. I’ve been reaching for books I would usually just peer at the blurb and dismiss. I do love a bit of comedy and in a completely non-sexist way my favorite comedians or very funny people seem to be women. Without further ado, the latest book in my I Need To Read Something Easy wave of reading is by the The Mindy Project’s, well Mindy whose entire name is Mindy Kaling. In the reviews I’ve read Kaling’s book has been likened to Tina Fey’s however I’m halfway through Tina’s and I don’t believe Mindy’s book is as laugh out loud as Tina’s! But that doesn’t make it bad!

With a slightly neurotic approach to life and random rambles, it’s like listening to a really drunk friend who is funny and just won’t shaddup! Adding more alcoholic beverages to this conversation will only make it better. Trust me. However I believe Mindy was very honest about her life and how she got to where she is now and what she’s learnt and is still learning. I really did love reading this because it’s like reading about someone who isn’t trying to be ordinary, they are just an ordinary individual who is completely kick ass at what they want to do which is being apart of great comedy! It’s quite a raw book in the sense that it doesn’t seem like much of Mindy’s voice has been tamed throughout, I can actually imagine her in my head saying all of what she has written in her book!

If you want an easy-going boook to dip in and out of this is it! A few laughs, random observations about completely ordinary things, not dense, this is your jamalam – book style.
