TV Series Review: Covert Affairs

I seem to have grown fond of Crime Fiction and all things alike. With all the Crime Fiction novels I’ve ventured through as of late I feel like a theoretic expert (lets not test the theory) on escaping any crime scene without getting captured. I exaggerate of course, but the lives of CIA and MI6 officers and detectives solving cases just seems thrilling – well at least that’s the twist authors and hollywood have used.

A perfect duo! Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), Annie Walker (Piper Perabo)

A perfect duo! Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), Annie Walker (Piper Perabo)

Recently I’ve been watching a series called Covert Affairs. It is a series about a CIA operative Annie Walker who leads two lives, pretending to work at an art museum whilst living with her sister but really she flies all over the world and works with the CIA to take the bad guys down. She looks good in every shot, of course this is hollywood.

Interestingly enough she works along a blind CIA operative Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), I know what your thinking how does a blind guy work at the CIA, I’ll have you know he’s an asset to Covert Affairs. Plus he’s hot – so somehow it works out.

Annie starts her career with the CIA having their own agenda to fulfil. They are using her to get to her ex-lover who left her on their travels without an explanation. So for a while Annie plays the love-sick puppy dog but then she gets over him and we can all live happily ever after.

I would be lying if I told you I liked Annie’s character who is played by Piper Perabo. I’m not entirely fond of her, even through the succession of the seasons I feel there isn’t much growth in her character. Despite that she can speak many languages, and her knack for not listening to orders and trusting her own instincts is admirable.

It’s a really good show to watch somehow I feel no matter how well the women in the show do, the men are painted superior – but I guess that discussion is a different one altogether. I don’t like giving ratings but If I had to I’d give it a 4.5/5. I actually can’t wait for season four!
